After a long weekend of wedding activities I gave Aiden some fruit chews. He knows that he is not allowed red dye... so he separated out the red ones asking me about the orange ones. I told him they were OK and he said "they just have a little bit of red, right".

We finally got home and he was in quite the mood. While in the shower he got very upset by my washing his hair and had a melt down. After realizing he was over reacting he covered his face with this hands and cried "I should never had eaten the orange ones!!". I started to laugh then took it back... knowing that would cause another meltdown.
Exhaustion in a 5 year old can be funny... at times....Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9171922348675870574.post-54597713927981090992010-10-26T10:41:00.000-07:002010-10-26T10:41:02.473-07:00Where has 2010 gone?2010 is just a few short months from being over THANK THE LORD. This has been one of the most trying years of my life. If I can make it through this, I can make it through anything. I have decided I want to start blogging again. If anything, to continue documenting the insanity of my life and the hysterical things my son says. I am so sad that almost an entire year has gone by and I have not written down anything... like I said 2010 SUCKED. Maybe I should just go ahead and proclaim it over now. October 26, 2010 is the last day of my year! If it was only that easy.

I hope to think of things and post pics to make up for the past few months and then keep up with the current. A is doing well in school. We has an "issue" the beginning of the summer where he needed to take some time off from school (ok. he got suspended for two weeks). I don't know if it was something going on with him or with everything going on a home it was causing him to act out. Either way, he is doing much better now and has moved up to Ms. Monicas class (4 year olds). He will soon be in Mr. Samuels class where they really turn and start preparing them for kindergarten. Can you believe he will be in kindergarten next year? He is so smart. They are sending home homework at preschool. I can't decide it if is more to get him ready for the routine or me. Homework has never been my thing.

One Aiden-ism I will add is that he has started saying "yessssss" when he gets excited over something. Its quiet and kinda under his breath but it is so cute. I always hear it on Saturday morning when he gets up "Mommy, do I have to go to school today?" When I tell him "no" I get the cutest "yessssssssss" as he heads downstairs.

He also has gotten quite good at taking pictures. I will also post some "from the eyes of Aiden" pics.

Lets hope I can keep this going this time!!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9171922348675870574.post-26925206277948660982010-02-16T16:23:00.000-08:002010-02-16T16:31:14.440-08:00Why?Why is the sky blue? The table he is racing on was made by Alan's Dad... Alan had a table just like this one growing up and he said that he use to do the same thing. The long narrow part was the country roads and the wider shorter part was the highway. I don't know that Aiden's thinking was that technical but he sure enjoyed racing in circles.. with a few bits of silliness in between.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nbcr5SbKwt0

Aiden found a small note pad the other night. He picked it up and started mumbling to himself for a few minutes... he then asked for something to write with so I got him a crayon. We were upstairs in my bedroom and he got up on the bed to talk to me. With the notepad in one hand and the crayon in the other... "mommy, what happened to the bath tub?". I had just poured cleaner in it and ran some water so I told him it was dirty so I had cleaned it. He looked at his notepad, scribbled something saying "cleaned it" and flipped the page. "Mommy, what happened to the potty?". I had not done anything to the potty so I said that I cleaned it also. He scribbled on the paper and said "cleaned it". Flipped the page "Mommy, what happened to the bath tub?". He had just asked this so I came up with something different "I took a bath". Scribbled and repeated "took a bath"... flipped page. "Mommy, what happened to the potty"...... you get the idea where this is going. We went through several pages of "what happened" with the potty and the bathtub. I decided to take him downstairs to interview Alan. He went into the exact same questions. Finally he switched to "Mommy, what happened to Patrick?" (character from Spongebob) and "Mommy, what happened to Spongebob?" We went back and fourth with these questions for a while. Alan and I were coming up with different answers and he scribbled the on his note pad. About half way through his "interview" I counted 37 pages that he had scribbled on. Some had been used twice.

I have no idea how many questions we were asked (or should I say how many times we were asked the same questions) but I get the feeling he got his investigative skills from his father!

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9171922348675870574.post-1380187766456069042009-11-09T07:37:00.000-08:002009-11-09T09:47:13.339-08:00Halloween 2009Me: Aiden, what do you want to be for Halloween this year?
Aiden: (Looking through a Party City magazine)A football player
Me: *SCORE* $9.99... easy!

a week later...

Me: Aiden are you looking forward to being a football player for Halloween?
Aiden: No, I want to be Blue Lightening McQueen
Me: Ok, Lightening McQueen?
Aiden: No, BLUE Lightening McQueen!!!
Me: I don't think I saw that one in the Party City magazine.... oh no...

We had to go old school, get dirty and creative this year. I made the mistake of asking him to help me pick out some toys for him to take to Dan-Dan's house. "We're going to Dan-Dan's?!?!?!?!". I told him that we were going to "tomorrow after school". I don't think the whole time concept of anything further out that right now has processed in his brain yet. All night, all he could talk about was going to Dan-Dan's. He would trick me and ask if we were going and when I said yes he would grab my hand and say "come on mommy" and try to lead me to the door. I would then again have to explain that it was tomorrow after school and after mommy went to work for a while. If I told him we were going to the mountians I then had to tell him that "No, Thomas has gone back to Sodor.. he was only in the mountians to visit for a weekend". At this moment in his life Thomas the tank engine = Mountians since the last time we were in the mountians we saw Thomas. After re-explaining to him (no kidding) 30 times he finally fell asleep but the first words out of his mouth this morning were about going to Dan-Dan's. I talked him into going to school for a bit. Dropped him off and told him I would be back and we would head up the mountian. I am exhausted already!! I just hope he thinks that the trip is worth all of the excitement!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9171922348675870574.post-46086382635506263062009-09-29T07:33:00.000-07:002009-09-29T12:00:30.468-07:00Only when the sun comes upQuick update:
Had Aidens 3 year check up 9/25/09. Weighed 40 lbs and is 41 inches tall. 97th percentile for height and weight. Dr. Wiese is predicting he will be around 6'3. Wow. I am going to be looking up to him before I know it.

I have decided that when Aiden wants to get up at 3am and go watch cartoons the best thing is to blame someone/thing else and tell him that we are not allowed to get up until the sun comes up. If "I" tell him that he can't, he will argue.. but I can't control the sun!! He has been waking up with the most random thought lately. Last night he told me at 2am that he wanted some beef jerky. A few nights before that he said he wanted a cupcake maker (one he had seen on TV). Am I not feeding my child enough that he dreams about food?? He is going to turn into oatmeal as much as he is eating these days. Panthers played last night and he got all excited wanting to get on his dads shoulders as he had before and yell "Go Panthers"! I let him watch a bit of the game (I know, I know... it was late) and then we went and laid down and watched a few more minutes of the game. During this short time the Panthers scored (surprise) and I yelled "yeah Panthers!" from upstairs to Alan who was sitting down stairs. Aiden sat up, very quickly pointed his little finger in my face and said "mommy, your yelling hurt my ears and we can not yell Go Panthers until the sun comes up". I stood corrected and could not help but laugh. Guess I need to practice what I preach!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9171922348675870574.post-39689453630353659962009-09-23T10:17:00.000-07:002009-09-23T11:30:04.501-07:00The BullyI posted the status on my facebook today as:

"I am beginning to think that it was not too smart to name my son Aiden which means "little fire" when his last name is burns... double whammy and I am paying for it now!!!"

I am starting to wonder how much influence a name has on a personality... wait, Katherine means "pure"... never mind.

Aiden has become SO demanding these days. I am trying to allow him to make some decisions on his own and do things on his own but sometimes it is just exhausting. We ate Mexican out with some friends the other night and there were peppermint patties at the register. He started telling me that he wanted one and I reminded them that he didn't like them because they made his mouth hot. He kept on and kept on so I got his Lightning McQueen wallet out of my purse and give him a quarter. He went back inside the restaurant and got his peppermint. Brought it back outside, took one bite, waited for a minute then handed it to me saying "I don't like it". A couple on the bench down from us had been listening to our conversation and busted out laughing. He just HAD to figure it out on his own... we all got a good giggle out of it until Aiden looked up at me and said "I don't find this very funny". Which of course made me want to laugh even harder.

He has started grabbing my face and pointing it in the direction HE wants it to. If I am not paying attention to what he needs he makes me look at him. If he is trying to show me something he directs my face that way. He is demanding all day long! Wanting more milk, wanting to watch Spongebob, nope changed his mind and wants "Penguins-a-gascar", wants to play monster trucks, wants to ride his bike, HAS to help fold clothes (or destroy the stack I have made), wants to go and see Mr. Scarlett (neighbor), makes me sit down on the couch so he can lay on me and twist the bottom of my shirt. I am being bullied by a 3 year old!!! For some odd reason, the "pweeses" and "i love you mommy"'s make it worth being picked on.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9171922348675870574.post-70654895328772811632009-09-18T16:52:00.001-07:002009-09-18T17:14:16.622-07:00Shoes can't talk

I have been thinking back on some of the funny things that Aiden has done so I can get this blog rolling. I though back to our last trip to Farmville, VA to see my grandparents and go to my cousin Amy's wedding. Alan, Aiden and I all slept together in a queen size bed at my grandparents. That Saturday morning Aiden woke up and sat straight up and said "I need a fishing pole". I tried not to laugh and asked him again what he needed. He said "I need to fish, I need a fishing pole". We talked for a minute about it and then went about our morning. This need to "fish" became an obsession of his. It was all he could talk about. My sister in law Mandy, being the angel she is, decided to take him out side and see if she could get his mind off of fishing. Before I knew it they were outside with a stick and a vine tied to it for rope looking for "fishing ponds" in the back yard. Anywhere Mandy pointed Aiden ran with his pole. After about 10-15 minutes of this Aiden stopped in his tracks and said "this is not a fishing pole... this is a stick". Threw it on the ground and proceeded back to the house. Well, it gave us a few moments of peace.

There was another time when I had been getting poor reports on his behavior at school. I decided it might be time to start the bribery tactic. We were in Walmart later that evening and I came across some Lightening McQueen tennis shoes. This went completely against my rule of no light or character shoes... ever. The things I will do for the possibly of a well behaved child and the risk of being completely disowned by my brother Adam (the shoe critic). The next morning we were walking into school with our new Lightening McQueen shoes on and I was explaining to him that if he didn't behave that Lightening was going to report back to me after school and that he was not going to be able to wear these shoes the next day. I was promply told, with a very seroius face "Mommy, my shoes don't talk".

How quickly things become reality... even at such a young age. He did finally get his chance to catch that fish!

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9171922348675870574.post-31060102958115691312009-09-18T08:24:00.000-07:002009-09-18T08:28:40.163-07:00When Thomas goes bad A guy at work showed up wearing this shirt today. I can't help but wonder (the Carrie coming out of me) what Aiden would think of this version of Thomas. He adores Thomas the Tank Engine more than about anything. I don't know if he would be offended or think that this is the coolest thing ever. I will have to show it to him tonight and see what he has to say!

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9171922348675870574.post-11772513407779078552009-09-18T08:18:00.001-07:002009-09-18T12:34:38.209-07:00Go Panthers!
It's not a great picture but you can get the idea. Alan and Aiden were watching the first Panthers game of the season and decided to put Aiden's pajamas on their head to show their support. Unfortunately the Panthers did not do so well... but at least this wont become an every game necessity!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9171922348675870574.post-79263924531864615432009-09-18T07:38:00.000-07:002009-09-18T12:54:09.548-07:00Seriously?
Are you kidding me? I'm starting a blog? I have always made fun of others that have a blog (sorry Mandy) but I have come to the realization that there really is a lot that goes on in my life that I would like to look back on. There are things that Aiden does now that frustrate me to no end but I know I will look back and laugh. As crazy as my life is I really need to put things in writing or I will forget. Plus there might be one of you out there that wants to keep up with the ongoings and Aiden-isms in my life. Being the oldest of 6 kids I don't always remember to tell each one the same funny story then I get scolded by another for not telling them. So here is a way for me not to get into as much trouble.

If you happen to not know me and enjoy stalking other peoples blogs as much as I do...

I have been married to Alan for 5 years and we have a 3 year old son named Aiden that comes from two very strong willed, outgoing, not quite right parents. The old saying "two wrongs makes a right" does not necessarily apply is this case. Aiden is the MOST strong willed, independent and funny child I know. Having the parents that he does (especially his father) you never know what is going to come out of his mouth. Sometimes it is things that I DO NOT want him to ever repeat... and that is something that Alan and I are working on (exp Alan :) ) For the most part he just keeps us wondering where he comes up with this stuff.

His most recent favorite saying is "are you kidding me?"... hince the name of this blog. My mom asked him if he wanted to slide down a slide at church and he looked at her like it was the most insane thing that had ever come out of her mouth "are you kidding me Nani?". This has become "his" polite way of saying no.

I hope to keep the one of you out there entertained. I am sure there will be some other randomness thrown in here from time to time. Enjoy!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0
