Only when the sun comes up

Quick update:
Had Aidens 3 year check up 9/25/09. Weighed 40 lbs and is 41 inches tall. 97th percentile for height and weight. Dr. Wiese is predicting he will be around 6'3. Wow. I am going to be looking up to him before I know it.

I have decided that when Aiden wants to get up at 3am and go watch cartoons the best thing is to blame someone/thing else and tell him that we are not allowed to get up until the sun comes up. If "I" tell him that he can't, he will argue.. but I can't control the sun!! He has been waking up with the most random thought lately. Last night he told me at 2am that he wanted some beef jerky. A few nights before that he said he wanted a cupcake maker (one he had seen on TV). Am I not feeding my child enough that he dreams about food?? He is going to turn into oatmeal as much as he is eating these days. Panthers played last night and he got all excited wanting to get on his dads shoulders as he had before and yell "Go Panthers"! I let him watch a bit of the game (I know, I know... it was late) and then we went and laid down and watched a few more minutes of the game. During this short time the Panthers scored (surprise) and I yelled "yeah Panthers!" from upstairs to Alan who was sitting down stairs. Aiden sat up, very quickly pointed his little finger in my face and said "mommy, your yelling hurt my ears and we can not yell Go Panthers until the sun comes up". I stood corrected and could not help but laugh. Guess I need to practice what I preach!

The Bully

I posted the status on my facebook today as:

"I am beginning to think that it was not too smart to name my son Aiden which means "little fire" when his last name is burns... double whammy and I am paying for it now!!!"

I am starting to wonder how much influence a name has on a personality... wait, Katherine means "pure"... never mind.

Aiden has become SO demanding these days. I am trying to allow him to make some decisions on his own and do things on his own but sometimes it is just exhausting. We ate Mexican out with some friends the other night and there were peppermint patties at the register. He started telling me that he wanted one and I reminded them that he didn't like them because they made his mouth hot. He kept on and kept on so I got his Lightning McQueen wallet out of my purse and give him a quarter. He went back inside the restaurant and got his peppermint. Brought it back outside, took one bite, waited for a minute then handed it to me saying "I don't like it". A couple on the bench down from us had been listening to our conversation and busted out laughing. He just HAD to figure it out on his own... we all got a good giggle out of it until Aiden looked up at me and said "I don't find this very funny". Which of course made me want to laugh even harder.

He has started grabbing my face and pointing it in the direction HE wants it to. If I am not paying attention to what he needs he makes me look at him. If he is trying to show me something he directs my face that way. He is demanding all day long! Wanting more milk, wanting to watch Spongebob, nope changed his mind and wants "Penguins-a-gascar", wants to play monster trucks, wants to ride his bike, HAS to help fold clothes (or destroy the stack I have made), wants to go and see Mr. Scarlett (neighbor), makes me sit down on the couch so he can lay on me and twist the bottom of my shirt. I am being bullied by a 3 year old!!! For some odd reason, the "pweeses" and "i love you mommy"'s make it worth being picked on.

Shoes can't talk

I have been thinking back on some of the funny things that Aiden has done so I can get this blog rolling. I though back to our last trip to Farmville, VA to see my grandparents and go to my cousin Amy's wedding. Alan, Aiden and I all slept together in a queen size bed at my grandparents. That Saturday morning Aiden woke up and sat straight up and said "I need a fishing pole". I tried not to laugh and asked him again what he needed. He said "I need to fish, I need a fishing pole". We talked for a minute about it and then went about our morning. This need to "fish" became an obsession of his. It was all he could talk about. My sister in law Mandy, being the angel she is, decided to take him out side and see if she could get his mind off of fishing. Before I knew it they were outside with a stick and a vine tied to it for rope looking for "fishing ponds" in the back yard. Anywhere Mandy pointed Aiden ran with his pole. After about 10-15 minutes of this Aiden stopped in his tracks and said "this is not a fishing pole... this is a stick". Threw it on the ground and proceeded back to the house. Well, it gave us a few moments of peace.

There was another time when I had been getting poor reports on his behavior at school. I decided it might be time to start the bribery tactic. We were in Walmart later that evening and I came across some Lightening McQueen tennis shoes. This went completely against my rule of no light or character shoes... ever. The things I will do for the possibly of a well behaved child and the risk of being completely disowned by my brother Adam (the shoe critic). The next morning we were walking into school with our new Lightening McQueen shoes on and I was explaining to him that if he didn't behave that Lightening was going to report back to me after school and that he was not going to be able to wear these shoes the next day. I was promply told, with a very seroius face "Mommy, my shoes don't talk".

How quickly things become reality... even at such a young age. He did finally get his chance to catch that fish!

When Thomas goes bad

A guy at work showed up wearing this shirt today. I can't help but wonder (the Carrie coming out of me) what Aiden would think of this version of Thomas. He adores Thomas the Tank Engine more than about anything. I don't know if he would be offended or think that this is the coolest thing ever. I will have to show it to him tonight and see what he has to say!

Go Panthers!

It's not a great picture but you can get the idea. Alan and Aiden were watching the first Panthers game of the season and decided to put Aiden's pajamas on their head to show their support. Unfortunately the Panthers did not do so well... but at least this wont become an every game necessity!

Seriously?

Are you kidding me? I'm starting a blog? I have always made fun of others that have a blog (sorry Mandy) but I have come to the realization that there really is a lot that goes on in my life that I would like to look back on. There are things that Aiden does now that frustrate me to no end but I know I will look back and laugh. As crazy as my life is I really need to put things in writing or I will forget. Plus there might be one of you out there that wants to keep up with the ongoings and Aiden-isms in my life. Being the oldest of 6 kids I don't always remember to tell each one the same funny story then I get scolded by another for not telling them. So here is a way for me not to get into as much trouble.

If you happen to not know me and enjoy stalking other peoples blogs as much as I do...

I have been married to Alan for 5 years and we have a 3 year old son named Aiden that comes from two very strong willed, outgoing, not quite right parents. The old saying "two wrongs makes a right" does not necessarily apply is this case. Aiden is the MOST strong willed, independent and funny child I know. Having the parents that he does (especially his father) you never know what is going to come out of his mouth. Sometimes it is things that I DO NOT want him to ever repeat... and that is something that Alan and I are working on (exp Alan :) ) For the most part he just keeps us wondering where he comes up with this stuff.

His most recent favorite saying is "are you kidding me?"... hince the name of this blog. My mom asked him if he wanted to slide down a slide at church and he looked at her like it was the most insane thing that had ever come out of her mouth "are you kidding me Nani?". This has become "his" polite way of saying no.

I hope to keep the one of you out there entertained. I am sure there will be some other randomness thrown in here from time to time. Enjoy!
